If you’ve typed “electric bike repair near me” into Google lately, you’re not alone. E-bike ownership in the UK has grown sharply over the past three years. And with it, the demand for qualified, trustworthy mechanics who actually understand what they’re working on.
In this guide, I walk you through exactly what to look for (and importantly: what to avoid) when searching for an e-bike mechanic. I’ve been working in the field for years, and the number of bikes I’ve seen come through our workshop following a botched repair is, frankly, too high to ignore.
Key Takeaways
Not all bike mechanics are qualified to work on e-bike motors, batteries or software. Always check for Bosch or Shimano certification.
A flat-rate call-out fee with transparent parts pricing is a sign of a reputable mobile mechanic. Hidden costs are a red flag.
A Cytech qualification is the UK industry standard for professional bicycle technicians.
Mobile e-bike mechanics can carry out most repairs at your home, workplace or even roadside. You should not be waiting for weeks to get a shop slot.
For Bosch-powered bikes specifically, only a certified Bosch e-bike service centre can run official diagnostics and software updates. For Shimano, you’ll want to work with a Shimano Service Centre-approved repair shop.
Why E-Bike Repair Is Different From Regular Bike Servicing
A standard bicycle mechanic can replace a chain, bleed your brakes and true a wheel. That’s a good foundation. But an e-bike has additional parts.
You have a motor, a battery management system, a controller, a display unit and increasingly on 2025 and 2026 models automatic electronic gear-shifting systems from Shimano’s CUES and Di2 lines. Each of these components requires specific tools, specific software, and in many cases, a manufacturer-issued service account to access diagnostic functions.
They’re provided to authorised service centres only. If your mechanic can’t access these, they cannot properly diagnose your Bosch motor, read error codes or carry out a battery capacity assessment. That’s not a minor limitation. Unfortunately, it means they’re guessing.
The Three Qualifications That Actually Matter
Cytech Accreditation
Cytech is the UK cycling industry’s technical training and accreditation scheme, run by the Association of Cycle Traders (ACT). A Cytech Level 2 or 3 qualification means a mechanic has passed structured assessments covering the full range of bicycle systems. While most good bicycle mechanics are not Cytech certified, it’s the experience which makes the difference. And at Domex Bikes, all our mechanics are Cytech-trained and have extensive experience. When you’re booking a repair, ask the question directly.
Bosch e-bike service centre authorisation
Bosch is the most widely fitted e-bike motor system in the UK market. Being a certified Bosch E-Bike Service Centre means a workshop or mobile mechanic has been assessed by Bosch, uses official diagnostic hardware, has access to the full e-bike diagnostics software suite and can source genuine Bosch replacement parts. Domex holds this certification.
Shimano service partner status
Shimano’s newer drive systems (including the EP8, EP801, and STEPS Di2 automatic shifting systems) require authorised service partner access to carry out diagnostics and more. If your e-bike is running Shimano components and your mechanic doesn’t have this status, they cannot fully service it. Domex is a certified Shimano Service Centre.
Need a qualified mechanic for your e-bike in London or Surrey? Our Cytech-trained team comes directly to your home, office or workplace.
No mention of certifications: A legitimate e-bike specialist will list their Bosch, Shimano or Cytech credentials. If a shop’s website or listing doesn’t mention them, ask directly before booking.
Vague pricing: Any mechanic who can’t give you a clear breakdown of call-out fees versus parts costs is asking for trust they haven’t earned. At Domex, our callout and assessment fee is only £44.77, regardless of the number of e-bikes to be looked at during the call-out. We’re also fully insured to work on road legal e-bikes.
No diagnostic equipment: A proper e-bike technician arrives with dedicated diagnostic tools and not just a multi-tool and a positive attitude. For Bosch systems especially, software diagnosis is non-negotiable.
Why Mobile E-Bike Repair Makes Practical Sense in 2026
The growth of TfL-funded cycleways across outer London and the expansion of the ULEZ zone have pushed a lot of people onto bikes, especially e-bikes, for their daily commutes.
The problem with the traditional ‘take your bike to the shop’ model is that it assumes your bike is an optional convenience. For a lot of people, it’s not. It’s how they get to work.
A mobile mechanic removes that friction entirely. At Domex, we arrive at your door with a fully equipped workshop van, which includes specialist tools, diagnostic hardware and a wide supply of common parts.
Most standard repairs and servicing jobs are completed in a single visit. You don’t need to arrange alternative transport, box your bike up or take a day off work to drop it off somewhere.
We cover London, Surrey and the South East, including areas such as Wimbledon, Clapham, Putney, Balham, Chiswick, Richmond, Leatherhead, Epsom and Walton-on-Thames. See our full coverage areas!
When you book with Domex, here’s what a typical visit looks like:
Arrival and assessment: We arrive at your specified address, carry out a full visual and diagnostic inspection and discuss any specific issues you’ve noticed. The call-out and assessment fee covers this.
Clear quote before any work starts: We’ll explain exactly what your bike needs and the associated cost. No surprises.
On-site repair or service: We carry out the work in our van: from a basic tune-up through to motor diagnostics, brake bleeding or drivetrain replacement.
Sign-off check: Before we leave, we run a final check to make sure everything is functioning correctly and you’re happy with the work.
Domex Bikes covers London, Surrey and the South East. We are Cytech-qualified, Bosch-certified, and a reputable Shimano Service Centre. We come to you — from £44.77.
The cost depends on what your bike needs. At Domex, we charge a flat £44.77 call-out and assessment fee, which covers our travelling to you and diagnosing the issue. Any parts and labour are quoted clearly before we start work. There are no hidden charges. A basic tune-up starts from £68.23, while more involved work such as motor diagnostics, brake replacement or drivetrain overhaul varies based on the specific job and parts required.
Can I service my e-bike myself?
Some basic maintenance, such as cleaning your drivetrain, checking tyre pressure and lubricating your chain is absolutely something you can do at home. However, anything involving your motor, battery management system, electronic gearing or Bosch/Shimano software requires specialist tools and certified access that is not available to the public. Attempting motor or battery work without the correct equipment can void your manufacturer warranty and cause damage that is expensive to put right.
How long does a mobile e-bike repair take?
Most standard service and repair jobs are completed within a single visit. A routine service typically takes between 60 and 90 minutes on-site. More complex jobs, such as motor diagnostics, brake system bleeding or drivetrain replacement may take up to two to three hours. If specialist parts need ordering, we will let you know at the assessment stage and arrange a follow-up.
Do I need a specialist mechanic for a Bosch e-bike?
For anything beyond basic upkeep, yes. Bosch’s diagnostic tools and repair software are only accessible to certified Bosch E-Bike Service Centres. Without these tools, a mechanic cannot read error codes or apply firmware updates. Domex is a certified Bosch E-Bike Service Centre with full diagnostic access for all current Bosch drive systems, including the Performance Line, Cargo Line and Active Line motors.
What areas does Domex Bikes cover?
Domex covers London, Surrey and the South East. This includes South West London (Clapham, Battersea, Putney, Balham, Barnes, Sheen), South London (Wimbledon, Wandsworth, Sutton, Morden, Richmond), West London (Chiswick, Acton, Ealing, Hammersmith), North London (Hampstead, Harrow, Hendon, Wembley), Greater London (Kingston and surrounding boroughs), and Surrey (Leatherhead, Epsom, Oxshott, Walton-on-Thames). Check our service areas page for full details.
How often should an e-bike be serviced?
It depends on how much you ride. As a general guide: occasional riders (up to 50 miles per week) should aim for an annual service. Regular commuters (50–100 miles per week) should service every six months. And intensive riders or those using cargo e-bikes daily should consider a service every three to four months. Domex offers four tiered service levels: Tune-Up, Occasional Use, Regular Use and Intensive Use to match your actual riding pattern.
What is the difference between a Bosch-certified mechanic and a general bike shop?
A general bike shop can handle standard mechanical work on an e-bike like tyres, brakes, cables and basic adjustments. What they typically cannot do is access Bosch’s eBike Diagnostics software, apply firmware updates or order genuine Bosch replacement components through the manufacturer’s supply chain. A certified Bosch E-Bike Service Centre has been assessed by Bosch, uses official hardware and is authorised to carry out warranty-compliant repairs. This is an important distinction to bear in mind for newer Bosch systems where software diagnostics are often the only way to identify a fault accurately.
Is it worth repairing an e-bike or buying a new one?
In most cases, repair is significantly better value than replacement. A quality e-bike represents an investment of £3,000–£5,000 or more. The exception is if the frame is structurally compromised or multiple major components have failed simultaneously. Our mechanics will always give you an honest assessment. If a repair does not make financial sense, we will tell you.

Prompt response to online request, & repair booking made. Sheng the technician arrived on time & was courteous & professional, checking about the cause of the damage & whether the rider suffered any injury. He performed the repair in his moblie workshop, along with full check of the bike, tightening nuts & bolts & lube to bike chain. All good. Would recommend this company.
Stu came out to repair my husband Neal's bike. From booking the home visit to the repair being completed was an easy and stress free experience. Stu had extensive knowledge and was able to diagnose the issues very quickly. The parts were ordered and arrived the following day and Stu returned to finish the work. We are very happy to have found Domex and will use them in future as our first choice service/repair company. Thank you Stu
That was actually super useful and amazing service. Really what I needed to be honest, trying taking a bike that has two punctures to the bike shop...sooo these guys really pulled through and it was affordable as well. So keep it up guys
Stu serviced my bike and was fantastic throughout. Very knowledgeable, explained everything in lehmans terms, identified other faults and quoted reasonably for the repairs. Highly recommend and I am confident that my road bike is now in good condition for the remainder of the year.

Easy to book, arrived right in the middle of the time slot, gave a call to say when they were on their way. Quickly fixed the issue. Really convenient, would recommend!
The service provided by Sheng was absolutely excellent from start to finish. He examined the bike, told me what needed doing, did nothing which was unnecessary, and did everything with great skill, efficiency and friendliness. The result is a bike which runs like new and I would thoroughly recommend both him and Domex Bikes.
The communication with Domex was very straightforward and Sheng did a fantastic job servicing my trike, making it road safe again. I'm happy I've found a company willing to take on the e-trike which many high street outlets wouldn't touch.
Did a good job fixing a puncture/replacing a tyre. Nice IT keeps you updated on appointment times, receipts etc. Had to wait a while to get an appointment (and they postponed the first one). Not cheap. But overall seems a good outfit.
Excellent service from Stu at Domex. It was incredibly convenient that they came to the house to repair the bike, so I can ride the bike as long as possible without having to leave it in a shop for a week or even a day. Great price, great knowledge and Stu even shared some ride routes with me.
They were very efficient, explained exactly what they were going to do, asked permission before adding something extra to the bill as the gear was out of line, pumped up both bikes, gave them a once over, all in their own van, payment was over their hand held terminal and it was done, definitely will use them again.
Adam arrived at my house an hour after I contacted Domex. He not only mended my puncture very quickly, but he also reinforced the tyre where it had been punctured, and checked the bike over with his expert eye. He was very friendly and pleasant.
Excellent communication about timings and an easy online booking service. The website did well in breaking down the different services offered and the serviceman was friendly and helpful.
Adam and Paul arrived as requested and completed the job in the estimated time mentioned. The job required repairing the breaks of my daughters balance bike and the new build of a Raleigh BMX bike. Great service, no additional costs incurred for the work. Very happy customer. Will definitely use them again.
Reasonably priced service and the mechanic was prompt, polite and helpfully identified a couple of other tweaks required that I’d missed when originally making the booking. I got a call an hour before the mechanics arrival, he sorted the job needed quickly and cleanly and offered some additional sound advice. I will be using again and would happily recommend Domex bike repairs/servicing to others.
The service was absolutely brilliant. My partner and I have had our e bikes for 8 years and tried several companies for service over that period. Domex was excellent. We really liked having the service at our home where we could talk directly to Adam who carried out the service, ask questions and understand what was being done and the reason behind it, rather than receiving an anonymous invoice.
Many thanks for fixing both of my ancient Brompton bikes whilst I was at work - they were done by the time I got back! Just a shame that I didn't get to meet the team to say thanks in person! 5 star service - great value too! Will recommend to friends and neighbours!
Paul, who serviced my bike was great. He listened carefully to the issues I had with it and diagnosed the problem straight away. He was friendly and easy to talk to and repaired and serviced the bike with care. I will use his skills again when the brakes need attention.
Brilliant, really helpful and on point. They also run a mobile service at the Queen Stage in Effingham which has saved me before. Would heartily recommend.
Efficient repair of a puncture on a folding bike at an office in Westminster, appreciated that the repair was done promptly and on site. Good value for this service.
Great service ,what a great idea ,mobile bike service, technician very personable, very knowledgeable and on time, highly recommend rather than dealing with various bike shops, dealt with a few. Can't recommend highly enough.
Wow what can I say. I am extremely and overwhelmed by the service I received especially Lewis. He was courteous ,professional and friendly. Once he returned my bike, sparkling and clean I thought he swapped it for a brand new bike. He actually went beyond what I paid for. I believe Domex to be the only best bike repair service in London, the cheapest and they come to you. Thank you so much you’ve made Christmas come early. Sandeep.
First time using a mobile bike mechanic and definitely won't be the last. Adam provided a first rate service, turned up as scheduled with a professional and friendly demeanor, no job was too small. Adam serviced my carbon road bike and swapped out some parts and now the bike looks and feels like new ! Pricing was similar to a bike shop however the convenience of not having to wait 2 to 4 weeks to be booked in, the time/hassle saved from not having to drop off and pickup and having your bike worked on by skilled mechanics means it's a no brainer. Give Domex a try !
Adam was a superstar. Stopped in at the Queen Stage and he sorted rear brake issue for me and showed me how to keep on top of future maintenance. Did a quick check around the bikes spotted a few other bits, and showed how to sort these too. Genuinely old school service whilst knowing bikes inside out. Really great experience. 100% recommended.
Fantastic service from Adam and the team at Domex. Super fast turnaround. Very thorough, nothing was too much trouble and he knows every nut and bolt inside and out. So easy to come to your door. Very reasonable price and easy to pay.
First class service of my road and gravel bike. Lewis was very approachable, informative and above all doesn’t do anything not strictly necessary - despite this being my first experience of Domex, I immediately knew this wouldn’t be the ‘hard sell’ and engendered a trust similar to local mechanics from your indie bike shop (no longer an option in our area). Convenient too - the van operates as both a parts store as well as a mobile workshop. Will use again - thanks gents.
